Over two million foreign workers work in Malaysia across various sectors like manufacturing, manufacturing, construction, services, plantation, agriculture, domestic help, mining and quarrying. All workers undergo compulsory medical examination by FOMEMA, an agency mandated by the Ministry of Health in Malaysia to ensure national public health safety. FOMEMA has successfully concluded the inaugural FOMEMA Foreign Worker Cup 2026 (Futsal Edition) (“FFW Cup 2026 (Futsal Edition)”), a milestone in its mission to promote the health, well-being and social inclusion of foreign workforce in Malaysia.
The tournament brought together players from Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh and was a great initiative beyond FOMEMA’s regular role as medical compliance, encompassing physical activity, mental resilience, and social engagement. The event was important in that it acknowledged the indispensable role foreign workers in supporting Malaysia’s economic growth. Malaysia recognises the importance of foreign workers in Malaysia as they help sustain productivity and national development, Therefore, initiatives that support the long-term health and integration of foreign workers in Malaysia is in the public interest.
Dr. Mohd Afiq Farhan Md Hanif, Chief Executive Officer of FOMEMA said,
“For almost 30 years, FOMEMA has been entrusted by the Ministry of Health Malaysia with the responsibility of safeguarding public health through a structured and comprehensive Foreign Workers Medical Examination system. As we evolve, our focus extends beyond compliance towards a more holistic and preventive approach to health. The FFW Cup 2026 (Futsal Edition) reflects this journey, where sport serves as a platform to promote active lifestyles, foster inclusion, strengthen employer-employee engagement, and build a sense of community where every worker feels valued, supported and empowered.”
The tournament created opportunities for employers and employees to connect in a positive, inclusive environment, strengthening relationships both on and off the court. By complementing existing medical compliance measures, initiatives such as the FFW Cup (Futsal Edition) contribute to healthier habits that contribute to improved long-term health outcomes and workforce sustainability, aligned with national public agenda.
Partners who contributed to the success of the tournament include Pahang Rangers as the Official Kit Partner, Wellness Partner KPJ Healthcare Group, Hydration Partner Richina and Supporting Partners Biotropics Malaysia Berhad, Construction Labour Exchange Centre Berhad (CLAB) and WellXS.
Who is FOMEMA Sdn. Bhd. (“FOMEMA”)?
FOMEMA was established in 1997 to operate a comprehensive Foreign Workers’ Medical Examination System in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan, under the mandate of the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
