| Sir Chris Hoy, one of the most successful British athletes of all time, today (5 June) unveiled the first in a series of Glasgow 2026 murals as Tour de 4, a unique cycling event created by the sporting champion, becomes an Official Provider of the Games and an Official Supporter of Team Scotland. As excitement for the biggest sporting event in the UK this year continues to grow and following the final ticket release this week, a mural of Sir Chris Hoy, the six-time Olympic gold medallist and two-time Commonwealth champion has been revealed on a railway arch along Glasgow’s Clydeside Expressway. The mural, created by Dair McCormick and David Breen at Residents Studio, depicts Sir Chris’ Commonwealth Games gold celebration at Melbourne 2006 and can be found near the Scottish Event Campus which will be one of the four iconic venues that will stage the Games from 23 July to 2 August. Sir Chris Hoy was among the first to see the mural, which is one of seven that will take over the archways with a new design being revealed each week. The cyclist commented: “It’s an honour to have that moment immortalised as a mural here in Glasgow. Looking at it now, I can remember exactly how I was feeling at that moment – exhausted, but extremely proud to have won gold for Scotland.” The announcement comes as Tour de 4, held for the first time in Glasgow last year and returning to the city this September, partners with Glasgow 2026. Sir Chris Hoy said, “A home Games is always a very special occasion, and Glasgow holds great memories for me. We have a wonderful summer of sport to look forward to in this city and I am thrilled to play a part in celebrating it. With the Commonwealth Games kicking off in Glasgow in July and Tour de 4’s return to the same city shortly after on the 6 September, a partnership between Tour de 4 and Glasgow 2026 and Team Scotland seems like a natural fit.” Following Sir Chris Hoy’s diagnosis with Stage 4 cancer, Tour De 4 was established to demonstrate that a Stage 4 diagnosis, while devastating, doesn’t define the limits of what’s possible. The unique, inclusive event raised over £3m for more than 300 UK cancer charities in its inaugural year. Commenting on the Tour de 4 partnership, Hoy said: “We were blown away by the local support we received at our inaugural Tour de 4 last year and I have no doubt we are going to see the same again. We’re looking forward to returning to Glasgow following the Games and hopefully raising even more money for UK cancer charities whilst having a lot of fun. Glasgow 2026 promises an altogether brilliant Commonwealth Games, taking place from 23 July to 2 August and combining world‑class sport with a future‑focused vision delivered through the vibrant spirit of the city. Set within a concentrated eight‑mile corridor, the Games will feature 10 sports and six Para sports, across four iconic venues, including Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), Glasgow International Arena and Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Highlights include a record-breaking Para sport programme, the biggest Track Cycling, Swimming and 3×3 Basketball competitions in Commonwealth Games history, and the return of the Commonwealth Mile in Athletics.

Running from 23 May to 9 August, the Festival will feature world‑class creative talent alongside local events delivered by community groups and sports clubs. With opportunities for people of all ages to get active and get involved, it will create a citywide celebration that brings communities together, inspires participation and amplifies the excitement of the Games.
Led by Chair George Black CBE and Chief Executive Officer Phil Batty OBE, Glasgow 2026 Limited is the privately funded Organising Company responsible for delivering the Games. Based in the city centre, the organisation employs nearly 200 people and will generate an estimated £150 million in local economic activity, welcoming 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories, supported by 3,000 volunteers and thousands of fans from across Glasgow and beyond.

With 1 in 2 people now being diagnosed with cancer at some time in their life, almost everyone has been affected by the disease in some way, be that directly or indirectly. Thanks to advances in medicine & research, increasingly more people are now living with different types of Stage 4 cancer for longer. And they’re not just surviving, in many cases they’re thriving – enjoying long, fulfilled lives and making the very most of each day.
Sir Chris Hoy is one of these people; since being diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer in 2023 he has continued living life to the fullest every single day. Chris’s passion for cycling and encouraging others in the same position as him to benefit from exercise, is unmatched. Looking to create a legacy that embodies those passions and gives hope to everyone, Tour de 4 was born. The inaugural event took place in Glasgow in 2025 and raised over £3.1 million.
This unique, inclusive event is back in Glasgow at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome on the 6th September with 4 rides to choose from; 92km and 45km road routes that begin and finish at the velodrome, a family-friendly route and static bikes in the centre of the velodrome.
