With overwhelming support and participation from 6,500 runners this year, AXA Hearts in Action Run 2019 (in its 5th consecutive year) had successfully contributed a total of RM 100,000 to 5 non-governmental organisations (NGO) namely WWF-Malaysia, World Vision Malaysia, National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, National Cancer Society Malaysia and Yayasan Jantung Malaysia.

This year’s theme “Know You Can Make A Difference” supports AXA’s purpose in becoming a trusted partner, by encouraging Malaysians to run for better health, and at the same time champion a noble social cause close to their heart.

In an effort to deliver the best possible running experience to all runners, for the first time AXA introduced the half marathon (21km) category, in addition to the 12km, 6km and virtual run category.

Emmanuel Nivet, CEO of AXA, commented, “Aside from providing runners a more challenging and competitive category, what lies stronger than ever is our commitment to help build a more sustainable society.”

Participating runners were empowered to show their support by selecting from 5 different T-shirt colours representing their preferred social cause and NGO:

Green (WWF-Malaysia): Know You Can Protect Our Mother Earth
Blue (World Vision Malaysia): Know You Can Empower The Future Leaders
Orange (National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia): Know You Can Be Kind To Your Kidneys
Purple (National Cancer Society Malaysia): Know You Can Prevent Before It Starts
Pink (Yayasan Jantung Malaysia): Know You Can Move Your Feet, Keep The Beat

“By working with 5 NGO partners for AXA Hearts in Action Run 2019, we strive to drive social inclusion, protect the environment and children, and promote health risk prevention to build a sustainable community. We are truly humbled to receive strong support from both new and returning runners who have given us the opportunity to bring positive changes to the community, without which AXA Hearts in Action Run would not be the event that it is today,” Emmanuel added.

Over the past five years, AXA Hearts in Action Run had successfully attracted around 20,000 runners and contributed over half a million to WWF-Malaysia, World Vision Malaysia, National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, National Cancer Society Malaysia and Yayasan Jantung Malaysia. The contribution had helped to support the following initiatives:

National Kidney Foundation: to aid 500 dialysis sessions for patients at 28 dialysis centres nationwide

World Vision Malaysia: contributed to Community Development Programme in Mukim Tulid and Mukim Tatalaan and helped over 2,500 people in 10 villages

Yayasan Jantung Negara: to support health screening programmes and health talks to educate Malaysians at rural areas such as Tumpat and Labis.

The AXA Hearts in Action Run is held annually

AXA Hearts in Action Run is organised annually in association with AXA Hearts in Action Corporate Responsibility Programme-a global CR programme introduced in 1991 for employees to carry out volunteering activities in the form of giving time, sharing skills and raising funds.

AXA is committed to promote Corporate Responsibility as a continuous, year-long agenda.
